West Salem Insane Asylum

Currently the West Salem Insane Asylum  is known as the Lakview Health
Center. The Name of the West Salem insane Asylum was changed in 1968.

In 1975 Lakeview moved into an adjacent facility and the original insane asylum was demolished in 1976.

The photograph the right is a garage that was one of the original structures that was built along side the Insane Asylum.

To the left stands a structure that is now used for storage, it is the first building that is seen from the Cul De Sac that approaches the old buildings, and was not used as a resident parking structure.

The two farm buildings to the right are a part of the original buildings that are still standing today, However; the water tower that is in the background, was reconstructed, as the original was torn down.

This building is particularly interesting because it was not used as a garage, it has no large garage like doors, but instead has multiple entrances. Today this building like the rest is used for storage.

Currently all of the original buildings that are still standing are owned by the county of La Crosse. They are also rented out as storage units.
